Course Description:

EMS Academy's EMT Courses offer comprehensive classroom training, the opportunity to do a shift in an emergency department to see EMT's interact with hospital staff, the opportunity to do a shift on an ambulance to see EMT's working in the field, and our most popular field extrication day at Weymouth Fire Department, utilizing the equipment and skills you have learned in the classroom and applying them in the field.  This gives you a much more realistic educational experience with hands on field experience. Students also complete an American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider Course which is also included in your tuition.

The Course includes:

Course fee includes: The AAOS Emergency Care of the Sick and Injured 11th Edition, Enhanced Textbook with Navigate 2 System including practice questions at the end of each chapter, an eBook, and Audio Book Power Point Lecture Presentations plus your instructor adds in many additional resources to help you excel and succeed in becoming a Certified EMT!  We also include the 2015 American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider Course with course completion card, Clinical, Field, and Extrication Class Components, Navigate System with downloadable course materials including the Power Point Lecture Presentations, practice quizzes, practice exams, street scenes, and study guides.

Quincy Accelerated 6 Week January EMT Course Dates:  1/29/2018 - 3/10/2018 Monday through Thursday, 9:00- 4:00 (Which means You have the Weekends Off!)

12 Week Traditional EMT Courses Schedule:

Marshfield 12 Week Night January EMT Course Dates:  1/29/2018 - 4/28/2018 Monday, Wednesday's 6 - 10 pm and every other Saturday 9 am - 4 pm

Quincy 12 Week Day January EMT Course Dates:  1/30/2018 - 4/28/2018 Tuesday, Thursday's 9 am - 1 pm and every other Friday 9 am - 4 pm
Quincy 12 Week Night January EMT Course Dates:  1/30/2018 - 4/28/2018 Tuesday, Thursday's 6 - 10 pm and every other Saturday 9 am - 4 pm

The Course Fee(s) do not include:

State and National Registry Certification Exam fees which are $150 for the Practical (Psychomotor) Skills Exam payable to EMS Academy and $80 for the Written (Cognitive) Exam with Pearson Vue.  EMS State of Massachusetts Certification Application fee of $150.00 payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Additional Course Information:

The objective of the Basic EMT training program is to improve the quality of pre-hospital emergency care rendered to victims of accidents and sudden illness. This course develops skills in symptom recognition and in all emergency care procedures and techniques that are currently the responsibilities of an EMT providing emergency medical care with a Fire Department or Ambulance Service.

Students learn about acute illnesses, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, child birth, rescue extrication, ambulance operations, splinting techniques, communication and documentation, medical legal implications, and how to use a defibrillator.

The course is expected to include a minimum of 150 hours depending on individual sponsor requirements and student needs. The curriculum follows the Federal Department of Transportation guidelines and is taught by a state approved EMT Instructor/Coordinator.

No prior experience or training is required of the course applicant. In order for you to be eligible for the state EMT certification examination, the applicant must:

· be able to read, understand and communicate in English;
· be 18 years of age;
· be free from addiction to alcohol or any drug;
· be able to lift and carry 125 pounds; and
· be free from any physical or mental defect or disease which might impair his/her ability to provide emergency care within the scope of the EMT(s) training and responsibilities, or which might jeopardize the health of another member of the class.

The student must also successfully complete the Basic EMT course including 100% attendance.

This course is taught using lectures, slides, demonstrations, labs with EMS Equipment we use in the Field and practice. Students completing the course are eligible to take the NREMT Certification Exams.

Once an individual passes the certification examinations and becomes an EMT, a program of continuing education must be undertaken in order to be eligible for re-certification at the end of the initial certification period. EMT re-certification periods are two years in length, after the initial certification period.
