EMT Basic (BLS)
The Good News Is ~ We Are Open! Please read! Thank you!
In keeping with the updated guidance from Governor Baker, as we enter the "Reopening Phases in Massachusetts" in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, EMS Academy is an approved Essential Business and just the same as all Essential Businesses, there are safety procedures we have in place for the safety of you, the customer, our Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Faculty and all who may come to EMS Academy.
Furthermore, with the restriction of no more than 10 people gathered in one place at a time, we will be having smaller groups, with staggered appointment times to come in when performing Skills.
As of today, entering "Phase 2" the State has advised that all didactic content shall be delivered using distributive, or virtual instructor led methods, to decrease the time students are in contact with others. As soon as we are aprised of any updates, changes, or lifting of said restrictions, we will post them here.
I have empathy for all of you as I know this has been an extremely challenging time for all of us. We will continue to do what is right, with best practices for the safety of all. Thank you for your patience.

EMT-Basics provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. EMTs possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and they function as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. EMT-Basics perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The initial training course for EMT-Basics consists of Didactic (classroom) learning that follows the National EMS Education Standards published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In order to be eligible to be certified as an EMT-Basic, a person must: Be at least 18 years of age; Abstain from the abuse of drugs which impairs professional judgment and/or practice; Be free of any physical or mental impairment or disease which could reasonably be expected to impair the ability to be an EMT, or which could reasonably be expected to jeopardize the health and safety of the patient;Meet the training requirements applicable to the level of certification. Obtain National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) certification by successfully completing a Massachusetts psychomotor (practical) examination and NREMT cognitive (computer-based) examination.Once an individual obtains NREMT certification, they must apply for Massachusetts certification in order to work as an EMT-Basic in the Commonwealth.
